Editing
Why edit?
The purpose of editing a document is to ensure the effectiveness of its structure, content, language, and style. Having a skilled editor to guide you through the process can be one of the most valuable assets a writer can have. If you want your writing to be the best it can be, and to fit the purpose and engage your target audience, then a thorough edit will help you achieve your goal.
Not sure what type of editing you require? The following breakdown has been designed just for you.

Structural editing
The structural edit looks at the big picture of your document or manuscript and focuses on content, style, structure, and meaning. In fiction, structural editing helps identify issues with plot, pacing, characters, setting, themes, and writing style.
Copyediting
The aim of copyediting is to achieve a consistent, cohesive, and complete manuscript or document. Copyediting looks at paragraph and sentence structure, spelling, grammar, expression, and formatting. A copyedit aims to ensure the consistency of a writer's voice by highlighting for the author any changes in tone, prose rhythms, word choice, syntax, transitions, and everything that contributes to eloquent writing. A copyeditor also ensures that any house style is adhered to.
Proofreading
The final editorial stage is designed to locate and correct any errors in the text or visual material. It checks for inaccuracies with grammar, spelling, punctuation, and language. Proofreading examines whether all required elements are included and in the right order, all amendments have been inserted, and the set style and design have been followed.
Because proofreading is the final step in the editorial process, it is not the time to be making changes to content or style, as these issues should have been addressed previously. It is the final version (the 'proof') before the work is published.
If you choose to work with me, we will begin by addressing what help you need and look at which service would best suit your project and budget.
What others are saying
Although we both had published before, this was our first time working with a commercial editor. It was an intense period as we had a short deadline. Gina gave us detailed notes, often on a daily basis, and was closely involved from structural edits to proof stage, including discussing with us the pre-design ideas for the cover for ‘What Lies Between Them’. We learnt a lot about the commercial publishing process and appreciate the scale of work involved for author and editor when bringing a book to publication.

Gina has provided support through two drafts of my doctoral thesis. On both occasions, she was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable in her approach. Her work is of a high standard and she provided the resources I need to better understand how to progress my work. Gina is very approachable and worked alongside me to develop a plan which suited my requirements and the parameters of my work. Thank you, Gina, for your support over the last six months.
